Finding a Website in the Guitar Directory

There are two main ways of locating websites that are in the Guitar Directory, browsing and  searching. Which is most suitable for you will depend on what you are looking for.

Browsing

Categories

All of the websites listed in our directory are organized by category, with each web site belonging to one or more categories. You can view all of the web sites (and sub-categories) in any specific category by selecting a category from the "Directory Categories" menu on the left of the page.

Alphabetically

If you think you know the name of the web site that you are trying to find, you can navigate to it using the alphabetical index of all sites. To do this click the "All Categories" link in the Directory menu. At the top of this page is a listing of A-Z characters (and 0-9 for numeric characters). Click the appropriate character for the web site that you are trying to find.

Latest Additions

You can view the most recently added web sites to the directory by selecting the "Latest Addtions" option in the "Directory Menu".

Most Popular

The most popular websites (i.e. those that have been visited the most times by our users) can be viewed by selecting the "Most Popular" link in the "Directory Menu".

Top Rated

On of the features of our directory is that users can "rate" listed websites according to how good or relevant they believe them to be. You can view the list of the sites that out users copnsider to be the best by selecting the "Top Rated" option from the "Directory Menu".

Searching

There are two ways of performing a search for a site within the directory, which you use will depend upon the level of control that you wish you have over the search criteria.

Simple Search

The simple search is the quickest way of finding a specific site or group of sites and is accessed via the "Directory Search" form located on the left side of the page.

There are two components on this form, the category selection drop-down list and the search term text box.

The category selection drop-down list allows you to restrict your search to a particular top-level category (and any sub-categories it contains), or allows you to search all of the categories. The default for this is to search All Categories.

The search term text box is where you enter the term that you wish to search for. Any value that you enter here will be used to search for listings that contain the term in their title or in their description.

Advanced Search

The advanced search gives you the most flexibility in finding sites in the directory. You access it by clicking on the "Advanced Search" option underneath the simple search form.

Using the advanced searchwill allow you to search on the title and description (as in the simple search, and additionally on the following fields:

  • Url, i.e. the address of the web site
  • City
  • State
  • Country
  • The number of hits the website has received
  • The ratings that user have assigned to the web site
  • The number of votes a web site has received

Examples of Advanced searches include finding:

a. all flamenco guitar related sites in Spain

  • Description = "flamenco"
  • Country = "Spain"

b. all luthiers in california

  • Description = "luthier"
  • State = "California"
  • Country = "United States"

c. guitar festivals anywhere in the United States

  • Description = "festival"
  • Country = "United States"

d. organization domain websites

  • Url = ".org"

e. top rated guitar tab ralated sites

  • Description = "tablature"
  • Rating = "Exactly" and "5 stars"

As you can see the Advanced search gives you the greates control over the search, you can base your search on only one field, all fields or any combination of fields. The more fields you use then the narrower the results will be (i.e. fewer).
